Father John Misty knows how to handle a scarf

If it weren't for the giant Starbucks cup, it'd be easy to imagine Father John Misty here as an editor covering the current menswear shows, pretending not to notice that his photo is being taken. So pitch-perfect was his execution of this XXL scarf while walking into the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, so perfectly nonchalant was his whole demeanor. And let's be real: Your average dude would probably sooner use that scarf as a throw blanket than go out into the world wearing it around his neck. It's a style move that is more wearable in theory-like on the Fall 2015 Burberry runway-than in practice.

And that's the real shame, because not only is it a damn good look, it's also warm. So warm that you can get away ditching your parka for a lighter leather or denim jacket (or even a suit jacket, as John did) and still be comfortable. So warm that you don't have to mess up your hair with a beanie if you don't want to. If you're traveling, the XXL scarf doubles as a pillow. If you're on a date, you can wrap it around that person's shoulders like a proper gentleman.

Really, more guys should cop this style move. Keep everything in the same neutral color palette, wrap and tuck one end into the opening of your jacket, and maintain a chill expression on your face and you've mastered the look. Plus, admit it already, that dinky street-vendor scarf that's about half the size of this is not doing its job of keeping you warm. Double down already.
