The best way to wear an infinity scarf is to not wear an infinity scarf

Because a flaccid neck brace is never a good look.

There are lots of different ways for men to wear keep their necks warm and look stylish. Putting on an infinity scarf is not one of them.

At the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences screening of his new movie Queen of Katwe, actor David Oyelowo donned the menswear equivalent of sequined Ugg boots: a chunky knitted infinity scarf whose yarns were shot through with reflective threads. And we're not upset about this, we're just disappointed. Until selecting this garment, Oyelowo-who is on most days a seriously stylish guy-had been one of our favorite celebrities to watch, given his knack for making a shiny statement suit look like something even non-famous guys could pull off.

Our disdain for the infinity scarf doesn't come from its associations with late-aughts hipsterdom or even its general aesthetic. Most scarves end up getting wrapped around the neck in a cylinder anyway, so the infinity scarf simply realizes a sartorial inevitability. But that very quality makes it laziest cold-weather accessory on the market today (how much effort does it take to wrap a scarf?), and it's unworthy of a man who's gone to great lengths to push the boundaries of what well-dressed guys wear in public.
